разглагольствовать - to speechify (25th July 2011)

разглагольствовать [raz-gla-GOL'-stva-vat'] (imperfective verb) – to speechify, to hold forth

You ususally use this verb to say that someone talks for a long time about something of no interest and you find it annoying.

Вместо того, чтобы разглагольствовать о политике, ты бы лучше помог мне. = Instead of speechifying about politics, you'd better help me.

Она всегда разглагольствует о вещах, о которых она не имеет ни малейшего представления. = She always holds forth about things she doesn't have the slightest idea about.

"Разглагольствовать" comes from the verb "глаголить" that used to mean "to speak" in old Russian. The word "глагол" (= verb) has the same origine.
