тёща - mother-in-law (8th September 2011)

тёща [TYO-shcha] (feminine noun) – mother-in-law (wife's mother)

Вчера к нам приходила тёща. = My wife's mother came to see us yesterday.

У тебя хорошие отношения с тёщей? = Do you get on well with your mother-in-law?

 

The word "тёща" only means "wife's mother". The word for "husband's mother" is "свекровь".
