отвыкнуть - to get out of the habit (23rd July 2012)

отвыкать / отвыкнуть   [at-vy-KAT'/at-VYK-noot'] (imperfective/perfective verb) - to get out of the habit of doing something; to forget how to do something

Я потихоньку отвыкаю вставать поздно. = I'm slowly getting out of the habit of getting up late.

Он совсем отвык от жизни в городе. = He has totally forgotten what life in the city is like.

 

Past tense of "отвыкнуть": он отвык, она отвыкла, они отвыкли.

Opposite: привыкать / привыкнуть к =  to get used to
