ничего - nothing (18th October 2011)

ничего [ni-che-VO] (pronoun) – nothing, anything (in negative sentences)

Он ничего не знает об этом. = He doesn't know anything about it.

Почему ты ничего не делаешь? = Why aren't you doing anything?

- Что нового? = Ничего. = What's new? - Nothing.

Please, note that "ничего" is only used in negative sentences (with "не" = not, so we have "double negative" in Russian here).
