правда - truth (28th August 2011)

правда [PRAV-da] (feminine noun) – truth

 

Скажи мне правду. = Tell me the truth.

Это правда? = Is it true?

Правда? = Really?

 

During the Soviet times lots of newspapers in the Soviet Union were called "Правда". In addition to simple "Правда", there was "Пионерская правда" (for Soviet scouts), "Комсомольская правда" (for young people), and lots of cities and towns had their own "правда", for example, "Ленинградская правда"... Some of these newspapers still exist.
