Сидеть как на иголках - to be on pins and needles

Сидеть как на иголках   - to be on pins and needles (= to be nervously waiting to see what is going to happen)

 

Перед экзаменом мы сидели как на иголках. = We were on pins and needles before the exam.

Сижу как на иголках, а вдруг не получится? = I'm on pins and needles, what if it doesn't work?

 

Literally the idiom means "to sit like on needles".
