здороваться - to say hello (14th June 2011)

здороваться / поздороваться  [zda-RO-vat'-sya/pa-zda-RO-vat'-sya] (imperfective/perfective verb) – to say hello

Этот мальчик никогда не здоровается. = This boy never says hello.

Аня вошла в комнату и поздоровалась. = Anya entered the room and said hello.

Поздоровайся с тётей! = Say hello to the lady!

Of course, "здороваться" is related to "здравствуйте" = hello. But did you know that both words come from  the word "здоровье"(health)? When we say "здравствуйте", we actually wish a person to be in good health.
