Word in focus

чувак  [choo-VAK] (masculine noun) – dude, man, guy

А кто этот чувак? Ты его раньше здесь видел? = Who is that guy? Have you seen him here before?

У тебя что, чувак, совсем крыша поехала? =  Dude, are you nuts?

« Could I speak to Natasha, please? | Main | How much is it? »

Can I have the check, please?

Можно счёт, пожалуйста?  [MOZH-na SHCHOT pa-ZHA-la-sta?] - Can I have the check (bill), please? (in a restaurant)

You can use "можно" to ask for other things too, for example:

Можно меню, пожалуйста? = Can I have the menu please?

Можно ложку, пожалуйста? = Can I have a spoon, please?

However, if you are ordering food in a restaurant or buying something, you don't normally use "можно". You just name the thing you want and add "пожалуйста":

Апельсиновый сок, пожалуйста. = An orange juice, please.
