Looking for a Russian teacher?

Word in focus

чувак  [choo-VAK] (masculine noun) – dude, man, guy

А кто этот чувак? Ты его раньше здесь видел? = Who is that guy? Have you seen him here before?

У тебя что, чувак, совсем крыша поехала? =  Dude, are you nuts?

« Помогите! - Help! | Main | Come on! »

Как ты себя чувствуешь? - How do you feel?

Как ты себя чувствуешь?  [kak ty se-BYA CHOOST-voo-esh'] - How do you feel?

If your Russian friends know you are recovering from the flu or an annoying stomach bug, this is the question they will ask you. Please, note that the question is about your HEALTH and not about how things are in general (in this case we use "Как дела?" or just "Как ты?").

If you address someone "Вы" (formally), you should ask, "Как Вы себя чувствуете?"

The typical answer would be "Лучше, спасибо." = Better, thanks.

Pronunciation tip: we don't pronounce the first "в" in the verb "чувствовать": [СHOOST-va-vat'].
